Mid-back and Rib Pain
Mid back pain most commonly come from problems originating from the thoracic spine, which is the middle portion of your spine. A very close secondary origin of pain come from the ribs, which attach from the thoracic spine, wrap around the side of the body, and then attach to the front of the body at the sternum.
Muscle Strains
The most commonly strained muscle group on the thoracic spine region are the thoracic spine erector spinae muscles. These muscles can get injured from bending to lift a heavy object, sitting for a long period of time with improper posture, or cumulative stress from a repetitive activity or sport. When these muscles get strained or inflamed, they can cause pain and discomfort with daily activities.
Rib Misalignment
The joint that is made between the rib and the thoracic spine can be a common source of pain. This joint can become misaligned from an injury, a fall or poor posture. When this joint is misaligned, it can cause pain that starts at the mid back and wraps around the side of your body, and towards the front of your body. Pain can occur from spinal movement and with movement associated with the ribs from breathing.
Our variety of specialized soft tissue manipulation techniques can decrease inflammation and tightness in the muscles around the mid back. Our doctors can also administer a gentle chiropractic adjustment to the joints of the mid back and ribs, to decompress the joints, and to help alleviate the pain associated with the joint misalignment. Postural analysis and movement therapy can also be administered to help prevent the pain from coming back again in the future. Call now to book your appointment today!
